Are you courteous but direct in IEP meetings? Are you comfortable with conflict? Are you calm in the face of a storm? Do you view education as a civil right? Do you understand assessments? Are you knowledgeable about IDEA, Section 504, the ADA, Connecticut special education statutes and regulations, and state and federal guidance impacting students with disabilities?
If so, you may be a great fit for our team.
We are seeking an advocate who uses courtesy, clear communication, and strategic thinking to support Connecticut families of children with disabilities. Our work includes efficiently reviewing education records (evaluations, IEPs, and more), consulting with families and their providers, attending PPTs, drafting polite letters that document important areas of agreement and disagreement, filing state complaints, assisting parents in mediation, conducting legal research, and more.
Office work is remote. School meetings may be virtual or in person, depending on your and the client's preference; and if going to meetings in person, advocates are paid their full hourly rate for travel. Education Advocacy LLC handles billing clients and offers other administrative support as well. For our advocacy team, Diane Willcutts is a free resource for any needed case consultation and/or guidance on work-life balance.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to navigate conflict in a professional manner.

SEAT 2.0 graduates strongly preferred.
(And if you have completed SEAT 2.0 and need a practicum supervisor, do not hesitate to contact us! Practicum students are unpaid but are considered for future employment.)
