Description

The Global Center for Applied Health Research (GCAHR) in the School of Social Work at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time, benefits-eligible, 12-month Postdoctoral Research Scholar. Contract renewal is possible on an annual basis for up to 3 years with no tenure implications. Anticipated start date is August, 2021.

GCAHR follows a Community Based Participatory Research (CBPR) orientation and applies a multi-method approach to the development, adaptation and testing of health interventions with the goal of influencing change in community, systems, programs and policies. The Postdoctoral Research Scholar will collaborate on global translational research studies related to prevention, parenting, positive youth development, health disparities and health equity, and local research capacity building. The Postdoc’s primary tasks will include liaising with international community partners, overseeing student researchers, developing data collection protocols, training community partners in quantitative and qualitative data collection, assisting in data analysis, writing manuscripts and developing future grant applications.



Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • Ph.D. or expect to receive a Ph.D. in a relevant field of study (e.g., social work, psychology, sociology, public health) by the start of the appointment.
  • Evidence of experience studying issues relating to health equity/health disparities, global health, prevention, substance abuse, or translational intervention research.
  • Demonstrate strong scientific quantitative analytical and writing skills and ability to publish research findings in peer-reviewed journals.

 Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrate commitment to equity, inclusion and cultural competency as well as working within broadly diverse settings/populations.
  • Demonstrate ability to read, write and speak in Spanish.
  • Demonstrate experience with qualitative data analysis.
  • Familiar or proficient in MPLUS and/or SPSS.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to travel independently abroad.
