Company History
Our mission here at Maricopa County Public Health is to protect and promote the health and well-being of all of our residents and visitors. This means providing you and your family with protection from the health threats such as food-borne illnesses, natural and man-made disasters, toxic exposures, and preventable injury. Public Health also works to prevent chronic diseases, such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes by addressing their risk factors: poor nutrition, inadequate physical activity, and tobacco use.
While our vision is to one day be a resource for all public health information in our vast community, today our web site focuses on those programs that we are currently funded to undertake. These include specific programs in the areas of community health, disease control and specific clinical services. You will also find current health advisories, information on seasonal issues such as influenza and heat and links to other agencies that serve the public's health.
Because of the size of our community (4 million residents), Maricopa County has separate departments for services that in many other jurisdictions are found under the Public Health Department. These departments include Environmental Services, which oversees things like food and pool inspections and vector control and Air Quality, which oversees particulate and ozone pollution.
